Indian foodtech company Zomato on February 6 said it will rename the company to ‘Eternal’. Take a look at the company’s journey from FoodieBay to Zomato to Eternal.

Zomato was founded in 2008 as FoodieBay by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah. The company started as a restaurant-listing-and-recommendation portal in the country.

Later in 2010, the company rebranded as Zomato to explore avenues beyond food. It reportedly expanded its operation to the UAE, UK, and the Philippines.

Zomato entered the food delivery space in 2015 in India.

The company introduced Zomato Gold in 2017. It is a membership program offering discounts on dining and delivery on orders through the app.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Zomato began delivering groceries and essentials under Zomato Market. Additionally, it also introduced contactless dining.

Zomato acquired its rival Uber Eats in an all-stock deal in 2020.

The company limited its operations in India and the UAE to support its domestic business.

Zomato acquired Blinkit (formerly Grofers) for $568 million in June 2022 to bolster its quick-commerce capabilities.

After renaming, Eternal would comprise its four major businesses – food delivery vertical Zomato, quick-commerce unit Blinkit, live events business District, and kitchen supplies unit Hyperpure.
