From April 15, 2025, Terminal 1 (T1) of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) will become fully operational, according to Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL).
Earlier this year, DIAL announced that T2 would close temporarily for 4-6 months for upgrades. This refurbishment aims to prepare the terminal for an expected increase in domestic travellers.
Currently, T2 handles around 270-280 flights daily, carrying over 46,000 passengers. As part of the transition, these flights will now operate from T1, with airlines being notified in advance to ensure a smooth shift.
DIAL’s CEO, Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, stated: “We are pleased to announce that Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 will be fully operational from 15 April 2025… All flights from Terminal 2 will be moved to Terminal 1 as part of this process.”
T1 was expanded under the Phase 3A development plan and officially opened in March 2024.
The terminal now covers 206,950 square metres, a significant increase from its previous 55,740 square metres. It boasts upgraded infrastructure, including advanced baggage handling systems, self-service check-in kiosks, and automated security checks.
With T1’s expansion, Delhi Airport is set to become the only airport in India capable of handling over 100 million passengers per year.
